Mead is a very old fermented drink, composed of honey, water and yeast, completely natural, without added chemicals or additives and that does not contain gluten.
It is considered to be the first of the alcoholic beverages consumed by humans and is believed to be a precursor to beer.
To the Roman legionaries the night before the battle, the army commanders gave them to drink mead, for being a natural energy drink, for the sugar of honey. Also the drink of the Greeks, Celts, Normans, Saxons and Vikings.
In America the Mayans took it with tree bark, Julio Cesar himself made the mead his favourite drink.
When a couple got married, they should consume mead during the lunation after the wedding.
It was believed that this increased the likelihood of fathering male children, thereby swelling the ranks of the army. Hence the current custom of the “honeymoon”
From the fifteenth century in Europe, the mead loses ground in favour of beer and wine.
Only in the northern areas of Europe, where the climate did not allow the cultivation of the vine and barley or wheat, did it survive
